What Are Custom-Fit Seat Covers?

True custom-fit seat covers are made from a pattern developed for a specific vehicle and seat configuration. Seat Covers Unlimited makes true custom-fit seat covers. Our patterns are developed from actual vehicle seats. We have individual patterns that account for the contours, openings, controls, headrests, armrests, and other features of a specific seat configuration. 

When ordering with us, and you have selected your year, make, and model, we may ask a few questions about features you can see on your seats. These questions help us determine which seat configuration and pattern your vehicle uses. We have built these question and answers that narrows your vehicle down to an exact model of your vehicle. You don't need to know your vehicle's trim level to order from Seat Covers Unlimited and we've tried to make this process as easy as possible.

At Seat Covers Unlimited, all of our seat cover patterns are measured with a real vehicle. As new vehicles become available, we bring them into our patterning process to measure the seating surfaces, openings, contours, and other features that affect fit. Those measurements are used to create sewing patterns for the different pieces that make up a complete set of custom seat covers. This process has resulted in thousands of patterns covering many of the most common seat configurations found in cars, trucks, vans, and SUVs. As vehicle manufacturers introduce new models or change their seat designs, new patterns are developed to keep our pattern library up to date.

Types of Seat Cover Fit

Most seat covers sold online fall into one of three categories: universal fit, semi-custom fit, and custom fit. While the difference in price between these options can sometimes be relatively small, the difference in fit and overall quality can be quite significant.

Universal Seat Covers

Universal seat covers use a general pattern designed to stretch and adjust across a wide range of vehicles, often leaving loose material, wrinkles, or gaps around the seat’s contours. 

Semi-Custom Seat Covers

Semi-custom seat covers narrow that range by using one mass-produced pattern for several seats with similar shapes and dimensions. While this can provide a better fit than universal covers, the pattern still has to be flexible enough to accommodate multiple seat designs. The result can be bulky areas or gaps where the cover does not closely follow the original seat.
