What Goes Into a Custom Seat Cover?

There is a lot more to a custom seat cover than the material you see on the surface. Each set starts with the fabric you choose, but underneath that material is foam backing, individual patterns, stitching, fastening systems, and multiple pieces designed to work together on your specific seats.

We manufacture everything from the main seat cushion and backrest covers to headrests, armrests, center consoles, and other pieces required by a particular seat configuration. The number, size, and shape of those pieces can vary considerably from one vehicle to another.

Our Seat Cover Fabrics

When we say we stock fabric, we mean a lot of fabric. Between the different materials, colors, and options we offer, our collection of fabric rolls has grown so much over the years that we've had to add additional warehouse space just to store it all. Keeping this much material on hand gives us the variety needed to offer customers more choices while supporting the thousands of different custom seat covers we manufacture.

Our fabrics include a plethora of colors of Canvas, Real Neoprene, Leatherette, traditional Upholstery Fabrics, and Saddle blanket.

Choosing a fabric ultimately comes down to how you use your vehicle, the look you want, and the type of protection you're looking for.

There isn't one material that's right for every vehicle or every driver.

What's Underneath Matters, Too

The outer material is only part of the construction of our seat covers. We back our primary fabrics with 3/8-inch foam, adding another layer between the seat cover material and your original sets.

We consider the foam backing an important part of producing a more premium seat cover. It gives the material additional body and cushioning and helps create a more substantial finished product compared with using a thin piece of material by itself.

From a Roll of Fabric to Your Vehicle

Before your seat covers arrive in a box, the material starts out on large rolls stored in our warehouses. We maintain fabric inventory across multiple locations, giving us access to the different materials and combinations offered throughout our product line.

From there, the material is used to create the individual pieces required for your vehicle's seat configuration. Instead of producing one generic cover and trying to make it work across many vehicles, custom manufacturing allows us to work from patterns for specific seats.

The result is a collection of individually shaped pieces that come together to cover your vehicle's seats.

A Seat Cover Is Actually a Collection of Pieces

When we talk about a “seat cover,” we're often talking about several separate pieces working together.

Depending on your vehicle and seat configuration, we may manufacture individual covers for the seat cushion, backrest, headrests, armrests, center console, and other sections of the seat. Split rear seats can require even more individual pieces so each section can continue to move and fold independently.

This is one of the major differences between making a custom seat cover and simply covering the visible seating surface. Each component has to work together while still allowing you to use the features built into your original seats.

We Know Our 40/20/40s

Bucket seats, bench seats, 60/40s, 40/60s, 50/50s, 40/20/40s - there are plenty of ways to describe the basic layout of a vehicle seat. After decades of making seat covers, these configurations are very familiar territory for us.

But the name of the seat configuration doesn't determine the pattern.

Two trucks can both have what would generally be called a 40/20/40 seat and still have very different seats. The contours can be different. One may have an opening headrest while another has an integrated headrest. Consoles, armrests, seat belts, controls, and folding mechanisms can all change the construction.

That's why we use individual patterns for specific vehicle seats rather than treating every 40/20/40, bucket, or bench seat as the same. The general seat type helps describe what you have. The individual pattern is what gives you the custom fit.

A lot goes into a seat cover before it ever reaches your vehicle. From the rolls of fabric we keep on hand and the 3/8-inch foam backing underneath, to the individual cushion, backrest, headrest, armrest, and console pieces, every part plays a role in the finished product.
